Wanini Kimemiah (b.1995) is a visual artist, storytelling consultant and writer based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Their artistic practice is a research and process-based exploration of the idea of the sensorium. Using a variety of media as sensorial tools that range from painting, collage, lens-based media, textile-based media and alternative processes in cyanotypes, they cultivate an awareness of the world they inhabit and examine how it functions especially outside of that which human-centric society has deemed unimportant or unremarkable; finding beauty in the mundanity of one’s life and environment.

Wanini is also a storyteller, who partners with mission-driven people and organizations to create engaging and impactful narratives that foster deeper understandings of their work, and allow them to connect more readily to stakeholders and target audiences. With their ever-expanding capacities as a photojournalist, videographer, writer, graphic designer, they have built a versatile storytelling practice that can fit a variety of client needs.

Their visual work has featured in print, and in online and physical exhibitions. Previous exhibitions include: “Antifragile” group show at Circle Art Agency, Nairobi (July 2023). “Various Small Fires” group show at Circle Art Agency, Nairobi (August 2021) and an open studio exhibition “In Which Our Wants Are Worlds” at Contemporary&, Nairobi (August 2022).They have also participated in the TURN2 Lab (Nairobi, November 2022)

As a writer, their fiction is speculative with a science fiction leaning while their work in nonfiction is critical art writing that responds to culture productions such as films and books. Some of their writing has been featured in publications such as Jalada, GenderIT, QZine and Popula. Their short story, Sunset Blues has been translated into Italian and Japanese and featured in the Futuri uniti d’Africa anthology from Future Fiction and Crystal Prism Queer SF Anthology.
